Windy day ππ¨
There is a surprisingly large amount of people that are really disappointed that I combed out my dreads and/or are giving me backhanded compliments.
I don’t really understand. It’s sort of strange to me. You would think the people who liked my dreads so much in the first place would be just as supportive of me without them.
People are weird, and it’s making me a bit uncomfortable.
Windy day ππ¨
I’m sorry that you are so eager to pass judgment on someone based solely on their hairstyle. I’m sure you’ve missed out on a lot of really wonderful people that way.
That being said, I urge you to do some research before you point the cultural appropriation finger. Even though there are many people (especially a growing population on Tumblr) that tend to assume otherwise, dreadlocks have not been exclusive to PoC throughout history. There has been a whole range of races and cultures that have adapted the hairstyle, not only for spiritual purposes, but for political and fashion statements alike. There hasΒ never been a right or wrong way.
They are not religiously exclusive.
They are not culturally exclusive.
They are not racially exclusive.
They’re just… hair.
So ease up, drink a cup of tea, and enjoy the beautiful night sky. I promise you, it’s much more enjoyable than sitting on a computer doing this. Have a lovely night.
